In Latin, solstice means ‘sun set still,’ The Winter Solstice/ The Grianstad an Gheimhridh as Gaeilge, is the time of great stillness …Once again, As the solstice draws nearer and persistent darkness of night cloaks the land, all of nature calls for us to attune to her rhythm, to slow down, to draw-in and tend to the deepest aspects of our inner nature and to hold vigil to the light within.
Everything lies dormant in the silent night, the earth sleeps and the animals hibernate. Yet while wintered nature appears still in her repose, deep within the earth the powerful forces of life are brewing.
In this silent pause in time, Nature in is laced in pure potentiality. If we sit with the seed of our pure intention and warm it with the vision of our fiery will, we can leverage the natural rhythm of this potent time to bring dream to realisation. The darkness of the winter equinox itself is the symbolic and spiritual womb from which the light of the sun is born and our individual hopes and dreams can be born anew.
Drawn from the deeper recesses of my own unconscious imagination this painting titled Hymnal to Nature contemplates on finer sheaths of Natures dreaming soul where behind the veil of winter’s darkness, her ancient technologies and furious spiritual power turns in timeless revelation.
