Gematria (2015-2016)
Gematria (2015-2016) Platonic solids appear at the birth of life. All matter is constituted of molecules, made of atoms adding up to their own kind of minimal molecular geometry.
The tetrahedron, cube, octahedron, dodecahedrons and icosahedron resonate as a mystical informational system coded for life. My paintings explore the question if the mystical hermetic’s of these ironically common place forms, can be coerced into releasing clues as to their possible essences? When the measurable parameters of geometric austerity are made malleable by artistic experiment, can forms then become carriers of previously unseen meanings? Can they begin to perform a function close to that of a word? The titles of the work speak directly to the question of the experiential relationships between the otherness of language and the scope of its unknown meaning when implicated as core patterns of physical creation.
